Life at Monte Vista
Although there can be several guests on different programs, the day is structured just enough so that all guests meet regularly for meals or for scheduled activities. This enables our retreat center to give our guests the freedom to do what they want, but still provide a bit of structure so that you can mingle with the guests and staff. Interacting with all of us is a big part of the fun as we enjoy learning about our guests, sharing stories, and just being together. A typical day looks like this:
8:00 am Yoga
9:15 am Breakfast
12:00 pm Lunch
5:15 pm Meditation
6:00 pm Dinner
7:30 pm Evening activity, if scheduled
Between 10:00 and 12:00 and 1:00 – 5:00, guests will have treatments depending on what program they are doing. As some treatments may be more intense than others, guests normally take the time to rest and reflect, stroll around the retreat center, take short walks on the beach, breathe in the fresh tropical air, or lay in their hammocks. Guests who are more active will find their way to kayaking, wakeboarding, or snorkeling, or enjoying one of the many other activities the island has to offer which are all within walking distance or 15 minutes taxi cab ride.
The Yoga in the mornings is a beginner yoga class, but advanced students are always welcome to join and you can modify the positions for your level. The meditations in the early evenings are a fine way to wind down your day and relax your mind.

180° view from the deck
The Deck, located in the Main Building, is the focal point of Monte Vista. It is where we all come together and share our day with yoga, meditation, meals, and chats. Facing west, it overlooks the entire ocean with views of Koh Samui and the islands of Ang Thong Marine Park. In the evening, we are blessed with sunsets of unimaginable glorious colors. Our view is one of the best on the island and several postcards have been designed and sold by international photographers – you may even see some of them in town!
In the evenings, unless there is a scheduled activity, guests are free to do whatever they would like. Sometimes guests will have spontaneous dance sessions, discuss philosophy and spirituality, share stories from their travels, tell jokes and laugh, or just sit quietly gazing at the stars. Scheduled evening activities (free for our guests) have included powerful group Sacred Breath sessions, watching self development videos with discussions afterwards, and introductions to other forms of meditations, to name a few.
Monte Vista Retreat Center has a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. Most people say that they feel this immediately as they arrive up on the hill. The energy is charged very positively from nature, especially the big old boulders that we have sitting around in abundance, and of course from the healing work that happens here. Once you have spent a few days here with us – you won’t want to leave. We have found a piece of paradise and are honored to share it with each and every one of you. From everything that we do here to help you, we hope that you leave Monte Vista a changed person, both inside and out. And remember, we are always here if you ever want to come back!
