Monte Vista Hearty Bread - Thank's Lucie!
July 6, 2012
The perfect breakfast in Ayurveda is a fruit, to be followed with some warm cereal or whole wheat bread with some honey or almond butter. Ayurveda proposes it is always better to eat warm cooked foods for breakfast as it helps wake the digestive fire.
In Ayurveda, it is just as importiant HOW you make the food as WHAT you are putting into the food. By using your hands for mixing and processing of the ingredents you are putting your own Pranic Energy into the food while you are cooking. In Ayurveda, food is alive, so it also absorbs all of the good and bad vibrations of the world around. By using our hands, and putting love into our bread, you will taste the difference.
1 1/8 Cup Water
3 Cups of Whole Wheat Flour
5 Tbs Mixed Grains (Rye, Barley, Oats, Flax,Wheat)
1 Tsp Salt
3 Tbs Honey
1 Tbs Dry Milk Powder
2 Tbs Ghee (or Butter)
1 1/2 Tsp Yeast
1. Mix 5 Tbs Mixed Grains with 1/8 Cup of the water, egg, honey and salt and Ghee and allow to sit for 30 minutes. This will give the grain some time to soften.
2. Mix remaining ingredents in a seperate bowl, and with your hands begin to mix flour mixture with grains mixture until a soft dough forms. You may have to add less or more water depending on the mositure of the dough. When a soft dough forms, cover and let rise (approx. 1 hour).
3. Punch dough down, divide into 2 balls and kneed again for approx. 5 minutes. Shape dough into loaves and place into greased bread pan. Put in oven and allow to rise again for approx. 1 hour.
4. Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes, or until golden brown. Makes 2 loaves.
